KAMPALA | Moses Nsereko, a recent candidate for the Kawempe North by-election, has announced his intention to challenge Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, for the presidency of the National Unity Platform (NUP).

Nsereko believes that leadership is transient and feels confident that he can secure the NUP presidential nomination to take on President Museveni in the 2026 elections.

He expressed his stance during an interview with Sanyuka Television.

"Forty years of Museveni's rule is enough. Leaders come and go. Our party's (NUP) ideology is centered on people power. My decision to run for the NUP presidency is not an issue because we live in a democracy, and it is ultimately the people who decide," Nsereko stated.

"This is why I will contest against Kyagulanyi for the NUP presidency. If he wins, I will support him," he added.

Before the Kawempe North by-election, Nsereko sought the NUP ticket but lost to Elias Nalukoola, who went on to win the election.

His choice to run as an Independent against Nalukoola drew criticism from NUP members for violating party rules.

The NUP prohibits members from competing against those with the party's endorsement in any election.

Despite this, Nsereko maintains that he remains a party member, as he still holds his NUP membership card.

"I still have my NUP membership card. I understand my party better than you do," Nsereko told the Sanyuka journalist.
