Moses Kalisa Kalangwa who is aspiring for the NRM vice chairperson for Buganda position has vowed to eliminate opposition influence in Mityana District, urging party members to end internal wrangles that are weakening the party’s strength on the ground.
Kalangwa made the remarks during a strategic engagement meeting with NRM leaders from Mityana District, held earlier this week as part of his mobilisation drive for support in his bid for the NRM vice chairmanship of Buganda.
“Our biggest enemy is not the opposition , it is ourselves. The internal fights and divisions among us are giving the opposition an easy ride. If we unite, the opposition won’t survive in Mityana,” Kalangwa noted.
He emphasized that the NRM had lost ground in recent elections not because the opposition had better ideas, but because of disunity within the ruling party.
He called on local leaders to rally behind the party’s broader goals rather than individual ambitions.
“I am here not just to seek your support, but to remind you that the NRM must speak with one voice if we are to reclaim our dominance in Buganda,” Kalangwa said.
Kalangwa, is currently the NRM chairperson for Kayunga District and is widely known for his grassroots mobilisation skills, positioned himself as the right candidate to unify the region and boost the party's visibility and support.
“We must return Mityana to the party fully. I am committed to ensuring that by 2026, the opposition has no space left in this district. But that journey begins with discipline and cooperation among us,” Kalangwa added.
Kalangwa urgued the party members to work together in preparation for the next election cycle, stressing that unity, strategic mobilisation, and service delivery would be the pillars of NRM’s success in Buganda.
“I am ready to serve. I’m not coming as a boss, but as a mobiliser, a listener, and a fighter for the party. Together, we can rebuild and protect our house from within,” he said.
The meeting is one of several Kalangwa plans to hold across Buganda as he builds momentum for the party’s internal elections.
