Lucky Ariho of the National Unity Platform (NUP) has been elected as the 37th guild president of Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST).
In the election held on Friday, Ariho won with 2,150 votes, defeating his nearest competitor, Henry Ssebyatika from the National Resistance Movement (NRM), who received 1,451 votes.
Ariho is currently a fourth-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at the university, while Ssebyatika, his closest rival, is a second-year student studying for a Bachelor of Science with Education.
Following Ariho's victory, NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, took to social media to congratulate him and express gratitude for representing the party with courage and pride.
However, Kyagulanyi cautioned the new guild president about the challenges he may face during his term and urged him to remain vigilant.
"Now that you have won, please be on your guard against the many traps that will be laid for you to betray the people's struggle for freedom. I charge you to remain vigilant at all times!," Kyagulanyi stated on X (formerly Twitter).
He also extended his thanks to the NUP team in Western Uganda, led by Deputy President Jolly Jacklyn Tukamushaba, and the NUP Institutions team for their contribution to Ariho's achievement.
Ariho will succeed Daisy Arinda Kankiriho, the 36th guild president of MUST.
