Being in opposition is a lucrative venture in Uganda- former MP
Mubarak Munyagwa

Former Kawempe South Member of Parliament, Mubarak Munyagwa has said being in opposition has become a lucrative venture in Uganda.

"The problem Museveni caused was letting money reach opposition. Being in opposition is now a lucrative venture," Munyagwa said.

He was appearing on NBS Television's Morning Breeze on Monday.

He said this state of affairs has spoilt the opposition .

Political scholar and researcher, Dr.Patrick Wakida who is also the CEO of Research World International said money and politics are inseparable.

"Politics is for sale. It is now a way of making money that the real politics has started to lose meaning. In Uganda, it is impossible to talk about politics without mentioning money or money without mentioning politics. This has distorted the original definition and incentive of politics," he said.

The comments come on the backdrop of  of pressure that  has been mounting on former Leader of Opposition, Mathias Mpuuga  following a social media expose of minutes of the meeting of the Parliamentary Commission chaired by Speaker Anita Among he attended on May 6, 2022  and shared nearly shs2 billion of taxpayers’ money in form of a ‘service award which has since been questioned.

Pressure has been piling on Mpuuga, especially from his National Unity Platform party whose president, Robert Kyagulanyi, recently suspended him from the position of deputy president for Buganda.

Mpuuga has however maintained that there was nothing wrong in the shs500 million service award.
