Dr. Ayume calls for halt to Lubowa Hospital construction
Dr. Charles Ayume - Chairperson of the Parliamentary Health Committee

The Chairperson of the Parliamentary Health Committee, Dr. Charles Ayume, has called on government to halt the construction of the UGX 1.44 trillion Lubowa Specialised Hospital.

Ayume cited the alarming rise in the country's public debt, which has reached a staggering UGX 97 trillion, saying Uganda needs to be more frugal in its expenditure.

Ayume’s concerns come in the wake of an acknowledgement by the Ministry of Health that construction works at the project site in Lubowa have suffered a two-year hiatus.

The revelation raises questions about the progress and utilization of funds at the project that has already consumed billions.

Ayume says temporarily suspending construction works will allow time to reassess the financial landscape before committing further resources. It's essentially a cautious pause, suggesting that, given the current economic challenges, it might be prudent to take a step back before moving forward.
