Over 300 farmers tipped on poultry health, nutrition
The Livestock Industry Foundation for Africa (LIFA) has held a workshop on knowledge update on poultry health and nutrition for farmers in the country.
The event drew over 300 poultry farmers from across the region.
The workshop was designed to equip farmers with the latest insights and strategies to improve poultry health and productivity, featured a lineup of expert speakers, including veterinary doctor Peter Were and Dr. Stephen Adejoro, President of LIFA, who delivered comprehensive sessions on crucial aspects of poultry farming.
Dr. Peter Were kicked off the workshop with an in-depth session on the common diseases that afflict poultry in the region.
His presentation offered practical advice on farm practices that can effectively combat these diseases, emphasizing the importance of early detection and proper management to minimize losses.
Dr. Stephen Adejoro delved into advanced topics critical to the success of poultry farming.
He provided the farmers with essential knowledge on establishing effective vaccination protocols and management strategies aimed at preventing losses due to vaccination failures and disease outbreaks.
The session also addressed the pressing issue of climate change, offering actionable solutions to mitigate its impact on poultry projects.
In addition, Dr. Adejoro discussed the management of heat stress—a significant challenge in tropical climates—along with the impacts of mycotoxins and recurrent vaccination failures. His insights were not only timely but also crucial for farmers looking to improve the resilience and sustainability of their poultry operations.
Farmers expressed their gratitude to LIFA for providing such valuable knowledge free of charge, a gesture that was highly appreciated by the local farming community.
"I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity," said Sandra Apolot, a teacher and farmer from Mukono who attended the workshop.
"By attending this workshop, I have gained valuable knowledge on how to prevent losses, increase productivity, and boost the profitability of my poultry farm. It's amazing that this information was shared with us for free."
