Valentine’s Day may come once a year, but for some, it marks a defining moment. For others, it is a celebration of love already found.
On Saturday night, during the Geosteady Blackman Live in Concert, one reveler chose to turn the occasion into a lifelong memory.
The concert, headlined by Geosteady, drew hundreds of fans eager to celebrate love through music. The atmosphere was charged with excitement as couples filled the venue, many dressed for the occasion and ready for a night of rhythm and romance.
In between performances, before the next act could be introduced, the evening’s hype man, DJ Nimrod, stepped forward with a surprise.
Holding a bouquet and a bottle of V&A Sherry, he announced that one lucky couple would receive the gifts in celebration of the season of love.
At first, the crowd hesitated. Ugandans are often shy when thrust into the spotlight, and many couples laughed nervously as the roving camera scanned the audience.
Some hid their faces, others waved off the invitation.
Then, from the side of the stage, Mark Emecu made his move.
Walking slowly behind DJ Nimrod and co-host Mr Henrie, Emecu held tightly onto the hand of a young woman. He requested a microphone. The crowd quieted.
He began speaking softly—his words not fully audible to the audience—but the emotion was unmistakable. Moments later, he dropped to one knee.
Gasps rippled through the venue.
The woman, later identified as Elizabeth Bondeyike, appeared overwhelmed. She covered her face with her palm, briefly turning away as though tempted to run off stage. The crowd erupted in cheers, urging her to respond.
After a few suspenseful seconds, she turned back toward him.
“Yes Mark, forever,” she said, extending her hand.
The venue exploded in applause as Emecu slipped the ring onto her finger. What had begun as a simple concert giveaway transformed into the defining highlight of the evening—a bold declaration of love witnessed by hundreds.
For many in attendance, it was a reminder that Valentine’s Day is not only about roses and dinners, but about courage and commitment.
The event was powered by V&A Sherry, whose branding was visible throughout the venue. Speaking after the emotional moment, Rochart Kaweesa, Brand Manager for V&A Sherry, expressed pride in the role the brand played in facilitating such a memorable experience.
“As V&A Sherry, we stand for sharing moments and celebrating love in ways that are bold, heartfelt and unforgettable. We are honoured that we could be part of Elizabeth and Mark’s beautiful beginning on a big stage in their lives,” Kaweesa said.
Concertgoers continued to buzz about the proposal long after the music resumed. Social media clips from the moment quickly circulated, with many praising Emecu’s confidence and Bondeyike’s heartfelt acceptance.
For Geosteady Blackman’s Valentine’s concert, the music may have drawn the crowd, but it was a bold proposal—sparked between performances and sealed under stage lights—that truly defined the night.
As the couple left the stage hand in hand, bouquet and bottle in tow, the message of the evening was clear: sometimes, love needs only one brave step forward.
