Joan Nambaziira of Buluuli County was crowned Miss Tourism Buganda 2025 in a dazzling finale at Hotel Africana, Kampala, on Saturday night.
The colourful event drew crowds from across Buganda Kingdom and celebrated the region’s rich culture under the theme “I Am My Culture.”
Nambaziira emerged victorious among 36 contestants from 16 counties, impressing judges with her poise, cultural knowledge, and commitment to promoting tourism.
Her win came with a brand-new car and the prestigious role of cultural ambassador for Buganda.
The pageant, which has become a signature platform for promoting Buganda’s heritage and tourism, rewarded the top four contestants with a fully paid cultural trip to London.
Organisers say the trip will expose the winners to global tourism networks and enhance their role as cultural diplomats.
A message from Her Royal Highness Nnaabagereka Sylvia Nagginda, delivered by Minister Cotilda Nakate Kikomeko, urged parents to nurture talent early and instil discipline and cultural pride in their children.
“When a child’s talent is identified and supported while they’re still young, it becomes a life-changing gift not just for them, but for the entire nation,” the Nnaabagereka said in her message.
She also praised the Miss Tourism Buganda initiative for providing young women with an opportunity to explore their identities and contribute to the country’s development through cultural tourism.
Buganda’s Minister for Tourism, Dr Anthony Wamala, congratulated the contestants and reaffirmed the kingdom’s commitment to youth-focused initiatives.

“These programs are grooming future leaders and ambassadors of our culture. We will continue to support them,” he said.
Cultural leader Omutaka Muteesaasira, representing the Council of Clan Heads, called for inclusive cultural programming that also empowers boys, noting the importance of balanced youth development.
Benon Ntambi, Chairperson of the Buganda Tourism Board, thanked parents for trusting the pageant and said nurturing the youth remains a key pillar in the Kingdom’s development strategy.
Najib Nsubuga, Head of the Buganda Tourism Department, pledged continued mentorship for the finalists to ensure they uphold their roles in promoting the Kingdom’s heritage.
The event blended fashion, dance, and traditional performances, with contestants evaluated not only on appearance but also on their cultural understanding, creativity, and public speaking.
Mercy Nabukenya from Kabula County (Ngabi clan) was named first runner-up, while Vanisha Leticia Navvubya from Busujju took third place. All finalists received awards and gifts in recognition of their dedication and impact.
As the curtains closed on this year’s competition, the Buganda Kingdom reaffirmed its commitment to preserving culture and empowering the next generation through tourism and education.
