Jinja Land Dispute: Minister Nabakooba Calls for Calm
Jinja Hospital medics block the main gate during a protest

A simmering land dispute in Jinja between the Jinja Regional Referral Hospital and the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has come to light. Lands Minister Judith Nabakooba acknowledged the issue and urged both parties for patience.

Minister Nabakooba commended the UMSC for their restrained approach while awaiting a resolution. She highlighted that the ULC had previously ordered a halt to construction on the disputed land, but this directive was ignored. This disregard, she suggested, might have triggered yesterday's protests (April 15th).

To move forward, the Chairperson of the ULC will visit Nakawa on April 17th to find an amicable solution. They will then submit a report to the Ministry for implementation.

Minister Nabakooba emphasized the importance of maintaining peace while a solution is reached. She urged both the hospital and the UMSC to continue their daily operations until the land dispute is officially resolved.
