Ruto promises Nairobi students machine that makes 1 million chapatis daily

Kenyan President William Ruto has pledged to buy a chapati-making machine for Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja to support the city’s ‘Dishi Na County’ school feeding programme.
Ruto made the promise on Tuesday while accompanying Sakaja to St Teresa Girls Secondary School in Nairobi’s Mathare area, where students requested that chapati be added to their meals.
“Over 300,000 children are benefiting from the programme; that means we need a machine to produce a million chapatis every day. I have asked the President for it,” Sakaja said.
Ruto agreed, telling the students, “I have agreed to buy a chapati-making machine. Governor, your work is now finding where to buy it.”
Chapati-making machines, also known as roti makers, can produce up to 2,000 chapatis per hour and cost upwards of KSh150,000 (about Shs4.27 million).
