NAIROBI | Kenyan President William Ruto has dismissed his cabinet after weeks of protests.

He retained only Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

Mr Ruto, in a national address, said decision taken after "reflection, listening to Kenyans, and after holistic appraisal of my cabinet".

Protests led by youth under the Gen-Z banner has crippled East Africa's biggest economy with Mr Ruto last week being forced to abandon the Finance Bill 2024.

His government jumped into a cesspool of loan to fill the funding gaps in the budget after the protesters refused to accept any concession related to the measures.

Mr Ruto last week took to X, formerly Twitter, to debate on Spaces as he looked to use every chance to appeal to the youth who continue to protest to stand down.
