The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) had previously scheduled a meeting with affected residents to discuss relief measures, as indicated in a letter from the Acting Executive Director, Frank N. Rusa, to Muwada Nkunyingi.

However, due to changes in executive positions, the newly appointed KCCA Executive Director, Sharifah Buzeki, was supposed to meet with the victims today.

Unfortunately, the scheduled meeting did not take place due to the raging fire at the Kiteezi landfill, which has sparked suspicion among the victims.

“All we want is to be compensated. These fire flames have been occurring ever since the Kiteezi landslide. All this is diversion,” said one of the victims.

As the fire continues to ravage Kiteezi, residents are left in a state of panic, with no immediate response from authorities.

The toxic smoke from the burning garbage is spreading to surrounding areas, causing respiratory issues and other health complications among residents.

With authorities seemingly overwhelmed, the affected community is calling for urgent intervention from both the government and disaster response teams to prevent the crisis from escalating further.

What is next for Kiteezi? Will the authorities finally take the necessary action to address the ongoing disaster?
