The vibrant energy of International Women's Day lingered in Kampala as the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) joined hands with Unilever Uganda to celebrate the city's unsung heroines - the women who tirelessly maintain its cleanliness. Often overlooked, their work forms the backbone of a healthy urban environment.

This initiative, themed "Invest in Women, Accelerate Progress," went beyond mere financial empowerment. It aimed to recognize the invaluable contributions these women make every day.

"We're thrilled to cast a spotlight on these remarkable women," Wangeshi Gitahi, Unilever Uganda's CSP manager, declared with genuine enthusiasm. "Their dedication and hard work are the invisible pillars of a clean city, and it deserves recognition." Unilever, alongside KCCA, aimed to uplift these essential workers by providing them with the recognition and resources they deserve.

More than just words of appreciation were offered. Women received an assortment of Omo-branded cleaning supplies – gumboots, gloves, and reflector jackets – to enhance their safety and efficiency. Everyday essentials like Royco, Pepsodent, Vaseline, and Geisha were also provided, a small token of gratitude for their tireless efforts.

Salim Uhuru, KCCA Central Division Mayor, echoed Gitahi's sentiments, commending Unilever's commitment to empowering women and fostering community development. "Their partnership is invaluable," he stated. "These women are the backbone of a healthy city, and we're proud to collaborate with Unilever in acknowledging their hard work."

Nyendwoha Kabasambo, a cleaning supervisor, couldn't hide her pride. "This isn't just about celebrating our work," she explained, "it's about empowering us to keep making a positive impact on our community." Her words resonated with the other women, a wave of purpose and appreciation washing over the group.

Unilever Uganda's partnership with KCCA exemplifies the power of responsible corporate citizenship. By supporting these essential workers and advocating for gender equality, they contribute to building a world brimming with opportunity and empowerment for all.
