Kungfu assailant in violent Kampala robbery netted

The prime suspect in Wednesday's violent robbery in downtown Kampala is in Police custody and looking like the Musota or snake after which he takes his alias of the vicious kungfu kick he unleashed.

Detectives from Central Police Station in Kampala successfully tracked down Derrick Mugisa on Friday around Nakivubo Channel in the city centre.

And now he awaits to pay for the crime - an aggravated robbery of Mr Tomson Mugisha Tomson.

Musota was captured on CCTV camera on Ben Kiwanuka street as he stalked Mugisha before catching the 40-year-old totally unawares and knocking him cold.

In the chilling incident, Mr Mugisha is seen walking leisurely with a bag strung across his shoulders before a man in a black T-shirt approaches from behind and then to his right and strikes him square in the face.

The assailant, bold and confident, had approached Mugisha with so much confidence and once the first kick had caught his target in the face and sent the victim sprawled on the pavement, he had proceeded to unleash several kicks to fully incapacitate the victim.

By then a second person had walked up and taken possession of Mugisha's backup and confidently walked away as the first assailant took a wallet from the pocket of the victim.

Musota then slithered away leisurely like he had been acting in a movie as the nearly 10 or so onlookers stand and watch unmoved by what is going on.

"Mugisa has confessed to both the act of kicking and the robbery," ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, said.

The kungfu assailant joins two other suspects already in custody.

Peter Senyonjo, also known as Kakima, and Nuur Lweyama, also known as Mr Tz (Tanzania) were taken into custody earlier.

"The trio has admitted to acting under the command of another individual, for whom efforts are intensifying to bring to justice," Owoyesigyire said.
