The Prime Minister of Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom, Andrew Byakutaga, on Monday hosted fast-rising music artist Jasper Kunihira Akiiki, better known by his stage name Genee Music Uganda, in a meeting that celebrated his contributions to music and cultural preservation.
Genee Music, famed for local hits such as Kinawolofu and Akaarokoku, was accompanied by fellow artist Shantel Jovial during the courtesy call on the Prime Minister’s office.
Byakutaga commended Genee Music for creating music that reflects the identity of the Bunyoro people and for promoting cultural heritage through the use of Runyoro-Rutooro language in his songs.
“I appreciate your talent and commendable efforts in promoting our culture through music. You are a cultural ambassador, and your discipline and humility are a shining example,” said the Prime Minister.
He urged musicians across Bunyoro to embrace discipline, humility, and cultural pride as cornerstones for success in the industry.
He emphasized the use of pure Runyoro in music as essential to preserving the Kingdom’s language and heritage, adding that musicians play a pivotal role in cultural transmission.

Byakutaga further pledged the Kingdom’s continued support to the arts, noting that initiatives like Genee Music’s upcoming concert—scheduled for May 10, 2025, at Kolping Hotel—will receive full backing from the Kingdom’s leadership.
In response, Genee Music expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom for the recognition and support.
He reaffirmed his dedication to using his platform to elevate local culture and support fellow musicians.
“With my Bunyoro-Kitara and Tooro roots, I promise to always raise the Kingdom’s flag high. I will continue supporting the development of our language and fellow artists who share the dream of taking Bunyoro-Kitara music to greater heights,” he pledged.
The meeting highlighted the Kingdom’s growing efforts to nurture cultural expression through partnerships with local artists, reinforcing Bunyoro-Kitara’s commitment to celebrating and preserving its rich heritage.
