Woman, 80, strangled in Isingiro

Police in Isingiro district are investigating circumstances surrounding the murder by strangulation of an 80-year-old woman .

Joy Kitarinyenda, a resident of Kasaana I cell, Birere Sub-county of Isingiro District was found lying in her house with the doors locked from out.

According to residents, the deceased was last seen on March, 30,  with Richard Bamwine, 42, who was her man friend around her home.

However, by the time  the body was found in the house, Bamwine was nowhere to be seen and on being quizzed, he said  he had left her well  as he went for Easter holidays.

SP Samson Kasasira, Rwizi Region police spokesperson confirmed that the body of the deceased was found with scratch marks on the neck and other parts that indicate that she was strangled.

He noted  that the motive of the act has not yet  been ascertained, adding that two suspects have  so far been arrested to help in investigations.

Kasasira named the suspects as Epharse Nuwabeine, a daughter to the deceased and Richard Bamwine, the man friend.

The body was taken to Mbarara regional hospital mortuary for postmortem.
