Mityana Payroll Mired in Irregularities
Mityana District Local Government is in hot water after Parliament's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) discovered problems with its payroll system.
Three employees have been drawing salaries for 15 years using forged academic documents. Hundreds of employees have issues with verification - 339 were partially verified and 58 didn't show up at all. Over 890 employees have birth date inconsistencies in their records, potentially impacting retirement. A massive mistake of 23 million shillings was paid to already-retired staff, with a proposed 12-year recovery plan deemed insufficient by the committee. The PAC chairperson demanded a police investigation into the potential fraud involving forged documents.
These issues expose weaknesses in Mityana's payroll system, highlighting the need for stricter measures to ensure accurate records and prevent future financial mismanagement.
