Youth from Kampala Central Division have called on fellow Ugandans to continue supporting President Museveni, applauding his government’s efforts to empower low-income earners through the State House Youth Wealth Creation Programme.
The appeal came from some of the 1,700 beneficiaries of the initiative, which was launched in 2022 to uplift small-scale workers and entrepreneurs in the informal sector.
During a monitoring visit, programme head Faizal Ndase toured areas including Kisenyi, Owino, Kamwokya, Kyebando, and Mulago to assess how beneficiaries are utilizing the support received under the initiative.
The programme targets youth engaged in small-scale ventures such as chapati and chips vending, local brewing, and salon operations.
Beneficiaries have received equipment and inputs including deep fryers, ovens, salon dryers, flour, and cooking oil to enhance productivity and income generation.
Ndase praised the beneficiaries for using the resources effectively to transform their livelihoods, noting that many had recorded significant income growth.
He announced that the next phase of the programme will focus on establishing Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs) within beneficiary communities to promote savings, access to revolving funds, and business expansion.
“We are now moving towards group sustainability,” Ndase said.
“The formation of SACCOs will allow youth to save, borrow, and reinvest — ensuring that the programme’s impact goes beyond one-time assistance.”
He also thanked the Office of the President, led by Jane Barekye, for providing oversight and ensuring transparency in the programme’s implementation.
Several youth shared success stories and expressed gratitude for the initiative. Prim Rose Talunga, a baker from Mulago, said her business had expanded since receiving two ovens.
“Before this support, we faced many challenges because we lacked tools. Today, not only have our livelihoods improved, but we’ve also trained other young girls in our community,” she said.
Bridget Naluyima, a chips vendor from Owino, lauded President Museveni for launching the programme, saying it had restored hope among Kampala’s urban poor.
“We are grateful to the President for thinking about us. The best way to thank him is through the ballot — by showing our continued trust in his leadership,” she remarked.
Ndase reiterated that President Museveni’s vision for youth empowerment is centered on practical, hands-on support rather than empty promises.
“This programme is proof that when young people are given the right tools, they can transform their futures,” he said.
Officials added that the government remains committed to scaling up similar initiatives nationwide to ensure that youth across Uganda benefit from sustainable livelihood opportunities.
