Traffic along the Karuma–Kamdini section of the Gulu Highway has been disrupted following the collapse of a road section near the Karuma–Olwiyo/Pakwach junction, prompting safety measures and diversions for motorists.
The Ministry of Works and Transport said in a statement on November 2, 2025, that preliminary assessments indicate heavy rains caused the embankment to give way near the URA checkpoint on the Kampala side.
To ensure safety, the damaged section has been cordoned off, and traffic is currently being managed on a single lane while restoration works are mobilised.
Motorists have been urged to reduce speed, drive cautiously, and follow all traffic control instructions at the site.
A diversion has been created for heavy trucks and trailers. The Ministry advised drivers to divert at the Karuma–Pakwach junction (URA checkpoint), proceed to Olwiyo Trading Centre—about 51 kilometres from Karuma Junction—then turn right to connect through Anaka before continuing to Gulu, approximately 62 kilometres away.
