Preparations are nearing completion for the upcoming thanksgiving ceremony dedicated to Jacob Oboth Oboth, the Minister of Defense and Veteran Affairs and Member of Parliament for West Budama Central.

Scheduled for August 30, the event is poised to witness notable political shifts as opposition members defect to the ruling party.

Francis Emojong, a key coordinator for the National Unity Platform (NUP), made headlines by surrendering his party card to Oboth-Oboth and Yeri Apollo, the MP for Tororo Municipality.

This defection, along with others from various opposition parties, marks a significant change in the region's political landscape.

The handover took place during the ninth preparatory meeting at Siwa Primary School.

The ceremony will host high-profile guests, including Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja as the chief guest and General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chief of Defence Forces, as the special guest.

Oboth-Oboth confirmed that preparations are 85% complete, assuring the district organising committee that everything is on track.

Supporters and well-wishers have generously contributed cows, goats, turkeys, hens, and cash for the event.

Minister Oboth-Oboth announced that 40 cows and numerous birds will be slaughtered, alongside 1,500 kilograms of posho, 1,000 kilograms of rice, and an assortment of vegetables. Additionally, 1,450 boxes of water and 2,500 cartons of soda have been secured.

The minister emphasised that the event is open to all, with no invitations required, and urged the public to attend in large numbers, expecting over 10,000 people from the entire Bukedi sub-region to join the celebration.
