Uganda Women’s Network (UWONET) has launched a nationwide call for women and young female leaders who participated in the 2026 general elections to share their experiences, in a move aimed at influencing future policy reforms and advocacy on women’s political participation.
In a statement issued under its “Women’s Voices” initiative, UWONET said the documentation exercise will collect evidence on women’s participation, challenges and outcomes in electoral processes across the country.
“The information collected will contribute to a documentation aimed at generating evidence on women’s participation, experiences, challenges, and outcomes in electoral processes,” the organisation said.
UWONET said the findings will be used to inform policy reforms, capacity building programmes, awareness campaigns and networking initiatives focused on women’s leadership and civic participation.
The organisation noted that effective participation of women and young women in democratic processes remains critical to advancing gender equality, women’s empowerment and national development.
“Uganda has adopted national, regional and international legal and policy frameworks that promote equal participation and rights for women and men,” the statement added, citing the 1995 Constitution, the Maputo Protocol, the Beijing Declaration and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).
The call is open to women and female youth who contested or participated in the 2026 elections at community, district and national levels and are willing to openly share their experiences, challenges and lessons learned.
Participants will be required to submit a 150–300-word summary detailing their achievements, obstacles faced and recommendations for improving women’s participation in leadership and democratic processes.
UWONET said selected participants may later take part in interviews, focus group discussions, story-sharing sessions and photo or video documentation.
The organisation encouraged applications from women from diverse backgrounds, including young women, women with disabilities and marginalised groups.
Applications are expected to be submitted by May 29, 2026.
