The Boda Boda Union, in partnership with the Luweero NRM Youth Brigade, has handed over more than 300 electric motorcycles to youths in Luweero District under its ongoing financing campaign.

Launched in July, the initiative is designed to fight unemployment while promoting environmental conservation.

Beneficiaries are required to present a National ID, pay an initial deposit of Shs168,000, and thereafter make weekly installments of Shs66,000 for two years.

Unlike conventional financing models,no guarantors are required.

National Boda Boda Union Chairperson Frank Mawejje described the project as part of the Union’s “electric revolution,” aimed at shielding riders from exploitative dealers who demand over Shs 1 million upfront.

“This approach enables riders to save more while owning an asset that can transform their lives,” Mawejje said.

The Luweero NRM Youth Brigade Chairperson, Sam Buchanan, stressed that the campaign is meant to empower youths irrespective of political affiliation.

“The goal is to develop them and give them an opportunity to earn a living,” he said.

Beneficiaries have been urged to see the motorcycles not just as tools of trade but as assets to uplift their livelihoods.

The distribution drive also comes ahead of the Union’s Festival and Expo, scheduled for September 14 at Kololo Independence Grounds, where more youths across the country are expected to benefit from the motorcycle financing program.
