The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS), in collaboration with the Uganda Police Force, has raided a factory suspected of producing counterfeit paint brands in central Kampala.
The operation, conducted at Naiga Plaza, uncovered an illegal factory operating on the building’s rooftop.
UNBS officials said the suspects were manufacturing and packaging fake paint products that imitated established market brands.
Authorities said the raid followed complaints from genuine paint manufacturers and consumers who reported poor-quality paint flooding the market, damaging surfaces, and misleading buyers.
UNBS spokesperson Kirabo Sylvia confirmed that at least 200 buckets of counterfeit paint were seized and more than four individuals arrested.
She emphasized that the crackdown is part of an ongoing effort to protect consumers from substandard goods that pose safety risks and undermine fair business competition.
Police have sealed the premises and confiscated the counterfeit products and production equipment, with investigations ongoing.
The suspects are expected to face charges including counterfeiting, trademark infringement, and violations of the UNBS Act once the investigation is complete.
UNBS has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or substandard products to help curb the circulation of counterfeit goods in Uganda.
