Patrick Wakida criticizes the opposition's efficacy
Patrick Wakida

Patrick Wakida, a distinguished political scholar, has announced his candidacy for the Kabweri County Member of Parliament seat in the upcoming 2026 elections, during a spirited gathering in Kadama Town Council.

Amidst cheers and jubilation, Wakida articulated his vision for Kabweri County, pledging to address entrenched poverty and inadequate education standards.

His entrance, accompanied by an enthusiastic procession of boda boda cyclists, marked a notable shift in his political role and aspirations.

Wakida's emphasis on tackling issues like poverty and education struck a chord with the audience, resonating strongly with their concerns.

Acknowledging the NRM party for facilitating his political journey, Wakida expressed gratitude, stating,

"I thank the NRM party for paving the way for me."

Drawing from his recent studies in political science, Wakida highlighted his belief that individuals from impoverished communities should align with the government rather than oppose it, dismissing opposition without power as futile.

"When you are an activist, you have very good ideas but cannot implement them because you don’t have power," he asserted.

In an exclusive interview, Wakida underscored his pursuit of power to serve his community, irrespective of its source.

He clarified his political affiliations, declaring his departure from the opposition to pursue his political ambitions.

While critics portray Wakida as disconnected from grassroots realities due to his academic and professional background, his supporters commend his advocacy for the continued use of wetlands, viewing him as a defender of their livelihoods.

Incumbent MP Stephen Mugole, also present at the event, affirmed his intention to contest the next election, advocating against politics of hate and expressing confidence in his representation in parliament.
