Armed forces urged to uphold spiritual connection

Maj Gen Leopold Kyanda, the former UPDF Chief of Joint Staff, has called upon all personnel in the UPDF, Police, and Prisons Service to maintain their spiritual connection with God to ensure the success of their missions.

Speaking at the armed forces prayer breakfast held at All-Saints Cathedral Church of the Resurrection in Bugolobi, Maj Gen Kyanda echoed Rev Dr Canon Nyegenye's message about the deeper purpose of life, referencing the Old Testament story of Angel Michael, a spiritual warrior.

"The work that we do as men and women in uniform has roots in the ancient battles of spiritual warriors," said Maj Gen Kyanda.

He expressed sorrow over the pain God endures as his children turn away from him, but also noted the blessings of a strong spiritual heritage among the armed forces.

"Know who you are, know your role, and know your path," he urged. "Remember our connection with the archangel and the presence of the Holy Spirit."

Rev Dr Canon Nyegenye, speaking from John 10:1-11, described the devil as a thief who robs people of their purpose and joy. She praised the armed forces for their dedication and encouraged them to perform their duties with the joy and purpose of soldiers of Christ.

The prayer breakfast was attended by numerous high-ranking officers, including Maj Gen (Rtd) David Wakalo, Maj Gen (Rtd) David Kasingwa, Brig Gen (Rtd) Rebecca Mpaji, and Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye, along with other senior and junior officers from the UPDF, Uganda Police Service, and Uganda Prisons Service.
