Rubongi Primary School, a cornerstone of education in the region, is set to celebrate its centenary on August 23, 2024.

The momentous occasion will be graced by Janet Kataaha Museveni, the Minister of Education and Sports, as the chief guest.

The event, themed "A century of learning, honoring our past, inspiring our future," will reflect on the school’s rich history and its ongoing commitment towards fostering education.

Founded in 1924 with about 80 learners, the primary school has been a beacon of learning for a century, nurturing thousands of students throughout its history, producing doctors, teachers and  professors among others.

The school currently has a population of 943 learners with 16 dedicated teachers, all on government payroll.

Apollo Mugudi, who has been serving as the headteacher since 2021, has played a pivotal role in steering the school through recent years.

"We expect about 2,000 people. We have paid all the service providers and all is set for the day,"Mugudi said.

The district security team has not been left behind in  the preparations. Through office of the RDC, security is equally more than ready to mark the day.

" All preparations to host the first  lady are in high gear. I appeal to the district population to turn in big numbers to welcome our mama," Albert Amula, the deputy RDC appealed.

The centenary celebration will not only commemorate the school’s legacy but also serve as a platform for fundraising efforts aimed at giving the school a much-needed facelift.

The organizing committee chairperson, Onyango Jagire highlighted that the funds that will be raised will be important in enhancing the school's infrastructure for provision of quality education for the future generations.

"We need to renovate some of our classroom blocks and also construct additional latrines to cater for the increasing number of learners in school,"said Onyango.

The presence of Minister Janet Kataaha Museveni is expected to bring added prestige to the celebration and spotlight the importance of supporting educational institutions.
