The Ministry of Education has promised to  donate reusable sanitary pads to all schools in Butaleja district.

The pads are set to last for 10 years, providing a long-term solution for the girl child who struggle with access to hygienic menstrual products.

Ministry  official, Rosset Nanyanzi, stated that the move will help to improve school attendance and academic performance of girls in the district.

She emphasized the importance of menstrual hygiene management in schools and how it affects the well-being and self-esteem of female students.

Nanyanzi asked the  teachers for always creating awareness about challenges girls go through.

She stated that sex education should be the way to go if learners especially girls are to stay at school.

The reusable pads, made from high-quality materials, are designed to be washed and reused for up to 10 years.

The donation will not only reduce the cost of purchasing disposable pads but also intends to insure that all girls stay at school.

The ministry responsible for the donation aims to distribute the pads to all schools in Butaleja district, with main focus in rural areas where access to sanitary products is limited.

The initiative is a step towards breaking the cycle of poverty and promoting gender equality by empowering girls to stay in school and receive education.

The district education officer, Esther Adeke, expressed her appreciation to the ministry of education for the timely response, revealing that currently, the district is overwhelmed by number of girls dropping out of schools due to pads related challenges and encouraged the schools to ensure proper utilization of the pads.

Adeke urged teachers to sensitize students on proper menstrual hygiene management and create a supportive environment for girls during their menstruation.

Michael Yoga, the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Butaleja district appealed to girls to be champions of change through encouraging their peers to stay at school.

He encouraged schools to always have debates to pass knowledge on learners.

This was during the inter schools debate organized by ministry of education and sports in partnership with Trailblazer Mentoring foundation, a non government organization focusing on children.

The generous donation of reusable sanitary pads is a significant development in addressing the menstrual hygiene challenges faced by girls in Butaleja district.

It is a clear demonstration of the government's commitment to ensuring that every girl stays at school safely.

It should be noted that Butaleja is the only district with youngest grandmother.
