At least 151 boxes of drugs from 59 outlets in the three districts of Teso, including Serere, Bukedea, and Kalaki have been sized.

The five-day operation aimed to ensure compliance with the national drug policy and authority act and protect the public against poor-quality medicines.

According to Dr. Musa Padde, the inspector of drugs at the National Drug Authority, the impounded drugs worth shs40 million  will be stored until the owners meet the standard operating procedures and requirements set by the NDA.

"We are committed to ensuring that the public has access to quality medicines," Dr. Pade said.

"We will not tolerate any illegal activities that compromise the safety and efficacy of drugs."

The operation also found that no government drugs were found in the over 50 private facilities visited, which is attributed to the government's efforts in fighting drug theft and corruption in hospitals.

Dr. Makumbi Tom, a senior inspector of drugs in the enforcement, noted that the operation is a testament to the government's commitment to protecting public health.

"We will continue to monitor and enforce compliance to ensure that the public is protected," Dr. Tom said.

NDA warned those involved in the illegal sale of drugs to cease their activities before they are apprehended.

They said the punishment for those found guilty is 5 years imprisonment or a fine of shstwo million  or both, depending on the judgment in court.
