The National Information Technology Authority-Uganda, under the UDAP-GovNet initiative and in partnership with the e-Governance Academy, hosted a high-level strategic workshop that brought together representatives from Government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to further Uganda’s digital transformation agenda.
The workshop centred on two foundational national frameworks — the Government Enterprise Architecture (GEA) and the e-Government Interoperability Framework (e-GIF) — which are designed to support the development of a unified, secure, and citizen-focused digital public service environment across government.
The engagement marked continued progress toward strengthening coordination, integration, and interoperability within Uganda’s public sector digital systems.
Discussions during the workshop emphasized that government institutions can securely exchange data while preserving their individual mandates, operational responsibilities, and institutional independence.
Participants noted that the e-GIF framework plays a critical role in enabling interoperability by providing structured guidelines and standards that allow different systems across MDAs to work together effectively without undermining institutional boundaries.
The workshop further emphasized that digital transformation should be driven by the goal of improving public service delivery rather than focusing solely on technology.
Officials noted that government digital systems must ultimately make services faster, more efficient, and easier for citizens to access.
A shared understanding also emerged that siloed approaches to government operations are no longer sustainable, with participants stressing that meaningful progress requires stronger collaboration across institutions, systems, people, and data.
The engagement additionally explored the growing role of emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Spaces, and Cloud Computing in reshaping the design and delivery of e-government services.
Throughout the discussions, participants consistently reinforced the need for all digital transformation efforts to prioritize the citizen experience.
The workshop forms part of broader efforts by NITA-U and its partners to strengthen Uganda’s digital governance ecosystem and accelerate the implementation of integrated and interoperable government services.
