Uganda has taken a strategic step to position itself as a leading tourism destination in North Africa through a growing partnership with Egypt aimed at boosting tourist arrivals and cultural exchange between the two nations.

Speaking during a media briefing at the Ndere Cultural Centre, Uganda’s Deputy Head of Mission in Cairo, Charles Angina, said the tour is a deliberate effort to market Uganda as a preferred destination for Egyptian travellers.

The delegation is expected to visit some of Uganda’s most iconic sites, including the Kasubi Tombs, the Source of the Nile, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Queen Elizabeth National Park. These destinations highlight Uganda’s blend of cultural heritage, wildlife and natural landscapes.

Egypt’s Ambassador to Uganda, Moses Salim, emphasized the mutual benefits of the partnership, noting that both countries offer distinct but complementary tourism experiences.

Salim said the collaboration presents an opportunity to jointly market Uganda and Egypt, allowing tourists from both regions to explore diverse attractions ranging from Uganda’s wildlife and scenery to Egypt’s historical and cultural landmarks.

The familiarization tour is part of broader efforts by Uganda to diversify its tourism markets and increase international visibility, particularly in emerging source markets such as North Africa and the Middle East.

With tourism remaining a key contributor to Uganda’s economy, officials say such partnerships are expected to boost visitor numbers while strengthening diplomatic and cultural ties between the two countries.
