Madi Okollo to Showcase Cultural Heritage, Boost Domestic Tourism

Madi Okollo District is set to host its third annual cultural gala, a two-day festival celebrating the region’s rich heritage while promoting domestic tourism.
Scheduled for Friday, February 21, and Saturday, February 22, 2025, the event will feature a mix of cultural exhibitions and tourism activities aimed at attracting both locals and visitors.
Attendees will have the opportunity to explore Madi Okollo’s natural attractions, including hiking on Mountain Luku, nature walks, birdwatching, tracing the White Rhino Trail, and a game drive in Ajai Game Reserve.
The festival will also showcase traditional music, dance, and drama performances by both the host and refugee communities.
According to District Tourism Officer Zahara Night, the event is not just about entertainment but also serves as a platform to preserve and share the region’s cultural identity.
“Sessions dedicated to narrating the history of the Ma’di people and King Ajai will be held, offering attendees a deeper understanding of the district’s past,” Night said.
Okello Fred Ayikobua, Chairperson of the Social Services Committee, emphasised that the gala is a key initiative for cultural preservation and youth engagement.
Likewise, local resident Ben Afidra believes the festival will empower the community with knowledge about their heritage.
Additional attractions include night camping, a fashion show, and fun games, all culminating in a vibrant celebration of tradition and tourism.
Participants are required to pay a fee of Shs100,000 to take part in the festivities.
