President Museveni has arrived in Tanzania where he will join other leaders from the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) for a high-stakes joint summit aimed at addressing the worsening security crisis in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Rwandan President Paul Kagame and his South African counterpart, Cyril Ramaphosa are also in attendance together with Kenya’s William Ruto and the host, Samia Suluhu.

President Tshisekedi has sent the country’s Prime Minister.

The meeting is set to discuss the crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo where M23 rebels are threatening to overthrow government.

The rebels last month captured Goma City.

There have been counter accusations between Rwanda and DRC over each other’s role in the renewed chaos in the country.

DRC President Felix Tshisekedi blames the Kigali establishment of directly supporting and arming the M23 rebels.

On the other hand, President Paul Kagame has on several occasions accused Tshisekedi of failure to solve the grievances of the M23 rebels.

The development comes at a time when M23 captured Goma and are said to be advancing towards Bukavu.

The rebels recently threatened to march to Kinshasa.

It remains to be seen what the outcome of the summit will be.
