Busia District is abuzz with excitement as it prepares to host Uganda's 62nd Independence Day celebrations under the theme, “A Recommitment to Secure and Fortify Our Destiny.”

The event, set for October 9th at Busikho PTC grounds in Masafu Town Council, marks the first time Busia is hosting a national event of this scale.

The locals are eagerly anticipating the festivities, which are expected to draw thousands of people from across Uganda and beyond.

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) have been conducting rehearsals at Busikho Primary School, drawing crowds fascinated by the military's presence.

“This is our first time to witness such an event. We have only seen these on TV from Kololo,” said Christian Ajambo, a resident of Busikho, expressing her excitement over the district's moment in the national spotlight.

Local businesses are also benefiting from the preparations, with traders setting up stalls in anticipation of the large crowds.

“Business is already booming. We are making sales like never before,” said Innocent Wasike, a vendor at Busikho trading center.

Security has been intensified across the district, with Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Hajira Namagogwe leading efforts to ensure the safety of both residents and visitors. She reassured the public that security measures are in place to ensure the celebrations run smoothly.

“We have deployed to protect our visitors and secure the venue,” Namagogwe stated, emphasizing the importance of safety throughout the event.

Local leaders have expressed their pride in hosting the Independence Day celebrations. Denis Nyangweso, Member of Parliament for Samia Bugwe Central, pointed to the district’s infrastructural achievements, such as improved roads, rural electrification, and access to clean water, as reasons for celebration.

As the final preparations are completed, Busia District eagerly anticipates a memorable day that will cement its place in Uganda’s national history.

With high spirits and growing anticipation, the district looks forward to hosting dignitaries and visitors as the nation comes together to celebrate 62 years of independence.
