Conservative Party presidential candidate Joseph Mabirizi has pledged to protect Entebbe’s fishing communities, reduce taxes, and introduce governance reforms ahead of the 2026 elections.

Conservative Party presidential candidate Elton Joseph Mabirizi rallied supporters in Entebbe on Tuesday, focusing on the challenges faced by the fishing community at key landing sites, including Kasenyi, Nakiwogo, and Kigungu.

Addressing the communities, Mabirizi called for unity to combat rising insecurity on the lake, which he attributes to brutality by the army.

Mabirizi highlighted the fishermen’s plight, noting that many have downed tools due to ongoing harassment.

“Fishermen pay a lot of taxes, but they don’t gain anything. They are brutalized by the army,” he said, emphasizing the need for immediate action to protect the community.

To support them, he pledged to provide water safety jackets and other essential resources to safeguard their safety and livelihoods.

The Conservative Party leader also promised to address the economic burdens weighing on Entebbe residents.

“Entebbe, as a historical area, deserves leaders who prioritize service delivery,” Mabirizi declared, vowing to scrap excessive taxes that have driven many into extreme poverty.

He further committed to improving infrastructure, including better health facilities, schools, and roads, if elected in the 2026 presidential elections.

Mabirizi outlined a bold vision for governance reform, including the introduction of a decentralization system to ensure equitable service delivery across all regions.

“I’m set to introduce a decentralization system where all areas must get services clearly,” he stated, underscoring his commitment to fair resource distribution. He also criticized the current government structure, pledging to reduce the number of MPs and ministers, whom he accused of exploiting taxpayers’ money.

“We will cut down the number of MPs and ministers who are exploiting taxpayers’ money,” he asserted.

Mabirizi is one of only three candidates scheduled to rally in Entebbe ahead of the 2026 elections, alongside National Unity Platform’s Robert Kyagulanyi and National Resistance Movement’s Museveni.

His message of socioeconomic transformation resonated with supporters, who see him as a champion for marginalized communities.
