He noted that peace in Sudan is vital not only for its citizens but also for the broader stability of the East African and Horn of Africa region.

Sudan has been engulfed in conflict since April 2023 following a power struggle between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), commanded by General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo.

The fighting erupted amid disagreements over the integration of the RSF into the national army as part of a planned transition to civilian rule after the 2021 military coup.

Since then, the conflict has resulted in thousands of deaths, widespread displacement, and a humanitarian crisis, with millions forced to flee their homes internally and across borders.
