The $129 million Hoima City Stadium, built ahead of Afcon 2027, is now fully complete and awaiting inspection by Confederation of African Football and Fifa delegations before it is officially handed over to the Ugandan government.

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (Fufa) has confirmed that construction of the Hoima City Stadium is now complete, with final certification by the continental football federation and global governing body Fifa being the last step before handover to the government.

According to Fufa executive member Rodgers Byamukama, the contractor, MS Summa, officially informed Fufa that the works are complete and requested the federation to facilitate the inspection process by Caf and Fifa.

“Last evening, I received a call from the contractor informing us that the stadium is complete. I then called Kampala, and they confirmed that Fufa had already written to Caf to come and inspect and give the final confirmation before the project is handed over to government,” Byamukama said.

He expressed confidence that the stadium would meet international standards, noting that the contractor is a reputable firm that has fulfilled all contractual obligations.

“The coming of Caf and Fifa officials is a standard procedure to certify the lighting, turf, seating, and other amenities. Once they approve, the stadium will be officially handed over to government,” Byamukama assured.

He added that after the handover, focus will shift to developing nearby training facilities, including Masindi Stadium, Booma Grounds in Hoima, and Sir Tito Grounds, which are key for team preparations ahead of the tournament.

“Hoima Stadium, worth $129 million (Shs 490.2 billion), was built specifically for Afcon, but the training facilities are a separate project. We are now turning attention to them since they are essential for the teams,” he noted.

Byamukama also encouraged investors to tap into opportunities in the hospitality sector, emphasizing the need for more high-end accommodation and entertainment facilities in the Bunyoro region.

“We need more quality hotels, restaurants, and relaxation spots that can host international players and fans. Those with capital should take advantage of this opportunity,” he said.
