MTN Busoga Masaza Cycling Championship Concludes with Thrilling Finale

Jinja – The second edition of the MTN Busoga Masaza Cycling Championship concluded successfully, with 44 participants racing to the finish line during the 2024 grand finale.

Each of Busoga Kingdom’s 11 chiefdoms was represented by four cyclists—two in the ordinary bicycle category, also known as the ‘Tipper’, and two in the mountain bike category.

The cyclists set off on a demanding 175-kilometer race, flagged off by Minister of Sports Amin Bbosa at the Busoga Kingdom headquarters in Bugembe.

After a fierce competition across five chiefdoms, John Odoto triumphed in the mountain bike category, while Tifu Luganda retained his title in the Tipper bicycle category, repeating their victories from the first edition.

Both winners received motorcycles, courtesy of MTN Uganda, the official sponsors of the event. The second runners-up in each category were awarded Shs2 million, while the third runners-up took home Shs1 million.

John Paul Okwi, MTN Uganda’s Sponsorship and Events Manager, emphasized the company’s ongoing support for Busoga Kingdom and its commitment to strengthening the region's partnership.

Busoga Kingdom Prime Minister, Owek. Joseph Muvawala, who presided over the championship, praised the youth for their dedication to sports and urged the community to take an active role in combating teenage pregnancy.

He also suggested that future editions of the competition should include both male and female participants.

With the second edition wrapped up on a high note, organisers and participants are already looking forward to the third edition of the MTN Busoga Masaza Cycling Championship.
