All set for national cross country championship in Tororo today

The Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) is set to host the highly anticipated 2025 National Cross Country Championship today at the Tororo Golf Course Grounds.
The event marks the seventh edition of the championship in Tororo and the 31st edition in Uganda, bringing together over 400 Athletes from across the country.

Among the top athletes expected to compete are Olympic gold medalist Peruth Chemutai, middle-distance runner Halimah Nakaayi, Belinda Chemutai, Stephen Kiprotich, Joshua Cheptegei, and several other upcoming athletes.
By the close of preparations on Friday, all necessary arrangements had been finalized, including barriers, race markings, and an electric timing system to ensure the smooth running of the event.
The championship comes at a significant moment, as the UAF celebrates 100 years of athletics in Uganda. The centenary celebrations are set to be officially marked at Namboole Stadium in Kampala soon.
Abdullah Muhammad, the UAF Publicity Secretary, emphasized the importance of the event, stating, "We are ready for the event. The electric timer is already in place. This championship also comes as we celebrate 100 years of athletics in Uganda."
He further highlighted the evolution of athletics in the country over the decades, noting that the event serves as a crucial prelude to the 100-year celebrations.
"Since we introduced athletics in Uganda, the sport has undergone various transformations. This championship also helps us kick-start preparations for our centenary celebrations," Muhammad added.
The Uganda Athletics Federation remains optimistic about the championship’s role in identifying and nurturing new talent.
"This is a major event for us as a federation because it is one of the competitions that ushered in Uganda's excellence in athletics, particularly in long-distance running," said Muhammad.
As the nation prepares to witness top-tier athletic performances, the 2025 National Cross Country Championship is expected to be a thrilling showcase of endurance, skill, and determination, a true testament to Uganda’s rich legacy in athletics.
