Lady Rugby Cranes get hands on jewel

Uganda senior rugby team the Lady Rugby Cranes have grabbed silverware at the 2023 Women's Safari Seven's. The victorious queens ascended to the crown with an epic 15-12 against Kenyas Lionesses.

Captain Peace Lekuru, was a constant menace tearing the lionesses den, with her final touch down sealing the headlines.

Other scorers Lydia Nakuya and Agnes Namabiro ensured Uganda's hands are firmly on the jewel.

Captain Lekuru, the architect in chief, puts this down to following the script, and settling the score for teammates.

"I'm proud of my teammates. We followed the coach's plan, embraced the structures, and played with a relentless spirit, especially for our injured players," shares Captain Peace Lekuru.

Lekuru not only captained Team Uganda to victory but ascended as the Top Try Scorer and Most Valuable Player of the 2023 Safari Sevens, throwing praise to the technical team.

"Thanks to Coach Onen and Coach Ben Kigongo for their unwavering support. Winning the Top Try Scorer and Most Valuable Player is an honor," acknowledges Lekuru.

Coach Charles Onen had praise for Lekuru's leadership on and off the pitch as pivotal to the team's success.

"Peace Lekuru is the ideal leader—her work rate, input, and output are unparalleled. She is steering the team in the right direction," commends Head Coach Charles Onen.

Despite delivering the goods, the journey was no smooth sail for Lady Cranes, who had to interface challenges, injuries, and losses. Yet, a decisive 12-26 triumph over Cubs propelled them to the finals.

Coach Onen reflects on the courage of his team to

overcome odds.

"We encountered tough moments, injuries, losses, but my girls showed remarkable resilience," acknowledges Onen.

Sweet revenge adorned the Lady Cranes' victory, avenging a narrow defeat on day one. A poetic dance of rise after a fall.
