Nkoma SS scoops girls’ rugby title

Mbale city authorities have hailed Nkoma Secondary School for the good representation in the Diary Cooperation Secondary Schools’ Ball games held in the Mbarara district where the school scooped the Girls' Rugby title.

The secondary school girl’s rugby team returned home with pomp after winning the Dairy Corporation secondary school's ball games competition, rugby tournament. The team was received back home by city council authorities represented by the deputy mayor and deputy town clerk.

The authorities expressed their pride in the team’s performance and pledged support.

Nkoma SS Deputy HM academics Ramadhan Ntege said it was not a smooth ride, attributing the achievement to the determination of the team and cooperation among stakeholders.

The team captain Gamisha Mariam was crowned the best player of the tournament. The champions automatically qualified for the East African games. The team coach Hamis Katumba is optimistic that the girls will defend the title in the East African competition.

Relatedly, Mbale City excelled in the Kid's athletics national competitions under 16 held in the Luwero district. The city presented four teams in four categories including under 12, under 14, under 16, and special needs each with six boys and six girls.

Atang Mary Shilat from Grace primary school beat the boys in their game to emerge the best under 14. The 13-year-old P7 candidate says she started athletics last year.

Mbale City also scooped a silver medal in special needs under 12 (T46 category), at least four out of six participants per sex in the under 14 category excelled. The team coach William Wamono sighted dishonesty among presiding officers.
