Fire in Busega Claims Three Children’s Lives

A devastating fire broke out in Kitaka Zone, Busega, in Rubaga Division, Kampala, claiming the lives of three children. The fire, which occurred at the home of Mr. Mugerwa Anest, was reported by a neighbor, Ms. Nakimera Moreen.
According to a press statement by Kampala Metropolitan Police’s Deputy Public Relations Officer, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, police from Nateete Division, led by ASP Kalyango, responded swiftly to the scene.
However, the fire had already been contained by local residents by the time authorities arrived.
In the press statement, ASP Owoyesigyire confirmed the tragic loss of three children due to suffocation from carbon monoxide.
He identified the victims as Nalukwago Danila (11), Lukwago Darius (6), and Muwanguzi Diego (3). “It is with deep regret that we announce the loss of these innocent lives,” said Owoyesigyire.
“They were found to have succumbed to the effects of smoke inhalation before help could reach them.”
Owoyesigyire also noted that two family members, Mr. Mugerwa Anest and his son, Mugerwa Marvin, were rescued and are currently receiving treatment at Mulago Hospital. He said, “The father and son were fortunate to be pulled from the fire and are now under medical care. We hope for their swift recovery.”
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with police urging the public to be cautious with fire safety at home. “Our deepest condolences go out to the affected family, and we assure the public that we are working diligently to establish the cause of this fire,” Owoyesigyire stated.
