President Museveni has reiterated his caution to residents of Kabale District to avoid what he described as dangerous sectarian tendencies, warning that such sentiments are often ignited by individuals seeking political advantage.
Addressing supporters at Kigezi High School Lower Primary School during his rally, the President said several communities in the district have routinely voted along religious or sectarian lines, raising concerns about a possible repeat in the upcoming 2026 general elections.
Museveni urged voters to embrace unity, drawing on the example of the Good Samaritan. He said Ugandans must prioritise goodwill and reject leaders who trade in division.
“Just know that those preaching sectarianism do not wish you good. Distance yourselves from everyone trying to preach politics of religion and sectarianism,” President Museveni said.
He also encouraged residents to support all NRM party flag bearers, adding that unity within the ruling party was crucial for continued progress.
Kabale District Chairperson Bridget Asinga appealed to the President to establish a Ministry of Transport mechanical workshop in the district.
She said the region continues to face challenges due to the long distances required to access services in Mbarara.
“President, we request that we should have a Ministry of Transport mechanical workshop because we are tired of going to Mbarara,” Asinga said.
Brenda Kiconco, the NRM vice chairperson for the Youth League, also called for the expansion of industrial hubs in the region, noting that many young people are benefiting from the existing facilities and need more opportunities.
President Museveni will on Wednesday continue his tour of the Kigezi sub-region, with scheduled visits to Kanungu and Rukungiri districts, where he is expected to conclude this leg of his campaign.
