NRM presidential candidate Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has officially launched his Rwenzori campaign trail in Kasese District, pledging a series of ambitious development initiatives aimed at transforming the region.
Addressing thousands of supporters, Museveni emphasized Kasese’s strategic importance, particularly its proximity to the border, and praised residents for their resilience. He stressed that continued peace is crucial for long-term growth.
The president highlighted the need for increased road construction budgets and additional road machinery for districts like Kasese and Ntungamo, citing the geographic size and infrastructure demands.
“Improving road networks will ease the movement of goods and services, boost trade, and create opportunities for our youth,” he said.
Museveni also announced plans to reconstruct the old railway line into a modern standard gauge railway, a move expected to enhance transport efficiency and position the Rwenzori region as a major business hub.
Further, he pledged to upgrade the Kasese airfield into an international airport to attract investment, promote tourism, and connect the district to global markets.
“These commitments fall under our broader agenda of peace, development, socio-economic transformation, and job creation,” he said.
On land disputes in the district, Museveni promised to deploy a high-level team comprising the Prime Minister, the State House Comptroller, and the Attorney General to resolve issues decisively.
The Kasese rally marks the beginning of Museveni’s Rwenzori trail, during which he is expected to showcase government achievements and outline strategies for accelerating regional development.
