The National Unity Platform (NUP) leadership in Kamuli Municipality has formally endorsed their party president Robert Sentamu Kyagulanyi, known as Bobi Wine, as the flagbearer in the 2026 presidential race.
The endorsement was coupled with the commissioning of new district offices at Budhumbula Palace Trading Centre, Southern Division, sponsored by aspiring legislator Silver Segonga.
Proscovia Naikoba Kanakutanda, who delivered the keynote address, urged the opposition to remain focused, warning that the next Parliament would be a “transition Parliament” requiring resilience and discipline.
She called on NUP supporters to use the failures of the NRM government—such as the controversial primaries and gaps in service delivery—to recruit new members.
“The NRM is the masterpiece of robbery, corruption, hypocrisy, and intrigue. We must mobilise aggressively and utilise every space and opportunity maximally,” Naikoba said.
Segonga, who is eyeing the Kamuli Municipality MP seat on the NUP ticket, said the new office was not only for NUP but for the wider opposition.
He argued that poor living conditions, drug shortages in health facilities, and the road network crisis had already turned many Ugandans into “opposition by default.”
District NUP Chairperson Michael Kasiko commended Segonga for offering the office, describing it as a key boost to visibility.
“It is unfortunate some top leaders took this office opening for granted, forgetting the big impact it brings. Whoever enters or exits Kamuli will conspicuously see NUP offices unlike before when we were hidden,” Kasiko said.
Other speakers, including activist Ruth Birungi, warned against “party tourists” and defectors, insisting that NUP’s focus must remain on discipline and unity as the 2026 campaigns draw closer.
