The National Unity Platform (NUP) has launched a grassroots mobilisation campaign in West Nile, beginning a region-wide effort to establish internal party structures ahead of Uganda’s 2026 general elections.
The campaign was officially unveiled at the party’s regional offices in Arua City, led by NUP Deputy President for Northern Uganda, Lina Zedriga.
The event drew participants from the Alur, Madi, and Lugbara communities, signalling the party’s intention to deepen its presence across the sub-region.
Local leaders were inducted into their roles during the launch, marking a significant step toward coordinated political activity and structured representation in West Nile.
Zedriga urged residents from all walks of life to actively participate in shaping their political future.
“Our call to action is clear: we want every capable Ugandan who believes in the values of good governance, accountability, and justice to take part in this political journey by offering themselves for leadership,” she said.
She stressed that the structure-building exercise was more than a party process — it was also a vehicle for community empowerment, enabling people to have a direct hand in choosing and holding accountable their representatives.
“This is not just about preparing for elections. It is about building a culture where citizens can take ownership of leadership and be part of decisions that affect their lives,” Zedriga added.
The exercise in West Nile forms part of NUP’s wider national strategy to entrench its influence at the grassroots level.
Party officials said similar drives are ongoing or planned across various sub-regions as NUP works to strengthen its organisational foundation.
Regional coordinators reaffirmed that structure formation will continue across all districts in West Nile, supported by training workshops and mobilisation campaigns in the coming weeks.
With its roots in central Uganda, NUP has been working to expand its appeal across the country. The structure rollout is expected to boost the party’s visibility and competitiveness, particularly in areas previously dominated by traditional political forces.
By investing in grassroots organisation, NUP aims to cultivate a network of local leaders and community-based structures that can effectively rally support, engage citizens, and articulate local issues in the national political space.
