The National Unity Platform (NUP) has filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal, challenging the High Court’s ruling on the disappearance of 18 NUP supporters.

According to NUP Secretary General Lewis Rubongoya, the appeal seeks to compel the government to account for each of the missing individuals, who were allegedly abducted by security operatives between 2019 and 2021.

“We are asking the Court of Appeal to order the regime to account for each of the 18 persons who were abducted by security operatives and remain missing to this day,” Rubongoya stated.

The missing individuals include John Bosco Kibalama, John Damulira, Shafik Wangolo, Martin Lukwago, Michael Semudu, Musisi Mbowa, Vincent Nalumoso, Dennis Zimbula, Muhammad Kanatta, George Katumba, Moses Mbabazi, Yuda Ssempijja, Baguma Joseph, Peter Kitya, Mustapha Muwemba, Hassan Mubiru, Isma Ssesaazi, and Godfrey Kisembo.

Family members of the missing persons accompanied NUP officials to the Court of Appeal, sharing their painful experiences of searching for their loved ones without success.

Monica Nabukeera, wife of John Bosco Kibalama, recounted how her husband was taken in 2019, and despite numerous efforts, his whereabouts remain unknown.

Rubongoya reaffirmed NUP’s commitment to seeking justice, insisting that accountability is crucial.

The appeal marks the latest move in NUP’s continued efforts to locate the missing individuals and hold those responsible to account.
