The National Unity Platform (NUP) has elected new local leadership in Jinja City, marking a significant step toward strengthening its organisational structure and influence in the region.

Party members from across Jinja City gathered to select leaders who will guide NUP’s efforts for the next five years, bringing together both experienced and emerging leaders.

Saulo Nsongambi, a former Democratic Party stalwart, was unanimously elected as NUP’s Jinja City Chairman. Nsongambi first rose to prominence during the tenure of former Mayor Muhammad Baswale Kezaala, with whom he worked in the Uganda Young Democrats.

He joined NUP in 2021 and has since played a crucial role in organising and establishing the party in Jinja.

Kalvin Bobi Giant, one of Kyagulanyi’s bodyguards, was elected as the City Secretary, while Jinja City Woman MP Manjeri Kyebakuttika took on the role of Party Secretary for Finance.

Notably, Namusubo Florence, who previously contested the Jinja North Mayoral seat on an NUP ticket, was appointed as the Female Chairperson for Jinja City. Meanwhile, Habibu Bumba will serve as the Publicity Chairman.

Additional coordinators were also elected for Jinja North, including Manisul Ssemuwemba, the current Councillor for Budumbuli West, and Ivan Kameze, Councillor for Mafubira and aspiring City Councillor for Jinja North.

The new leadership team is entrusted with advancing NUP’s agenda and strengthening its grassroots presence across Jinja City. Supporters are optimistic that this dynamic team will play a pivotal role in promoting the party’s vision and values in the region.

The election of this team underscores NUP’s commitment to building a robust grassroots network and enhancing its impact within communities across Uganda.
