Museveni summons NRM MPs
President Yoweri Museveni, also the National Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), has summoned the party Parliamentary Caucus to State House Entebbe on Friday, August 16, 2024.
According to a statement issued by Government Chief Whip Denis Hamson Obua, the meeting will discuss the rationalization of government agencies, among other issues.

"The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the rationalization of government agencies and other pressing matters," Obua said in the statement.
"All NRM and NRM-independent leaning legislators are expected to attend."
However, some legislators want the meeting to also address the alleged corruption in Parliament and the pending censure of the four embattled commissioners.
"We cannot ignore the elephant in the room," said one legislator. "Corruption in Parliament must be addressed, and the censure motion must be discussed."
Another legislator added, "We need to clean up our house first before discussing other issues. The rationalization of government agencies is important, but so is the integrity of our institution."
The meeting comes barely a week after the government re-tabled the bill on the rationalization of entities, which Parliament had rejected earlier.
The legislators' demands to include the corruption issue on the agenda may set the stage for a lively discussion at the State House meeting.
"We will not be silenced," said a legislator. "We will ensure that the issues affecting our institution are addressed."
