11 arrested after gang moving on boda bodas robs shs47m from businessman
Police in Kampala have arrested at least 11 suspects involved in the robbery of shs47 million from a man in Kampala.
According to Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, Benjamin Ariong, 34 a businessman and resident of Kiduka zone, Mutungo in Kampala was targeted by a gang moving on boda bodas after withdrawing shs47 million from PostBank in Bugoloobi.

When Ariong realized that he had been targeted by the gang travelling on boda bodas, he sought refugee from nearby traffic police officers but unfortunately, they were not armed.
The thugs would later beat the traffic police officers and consequently robbed Ariong’s bag containing the money.
“Ariong reported the matter to police and a case of aggravated robbery was opened under Jinja Road police station reference number CRB 573/2024. Following diligent investigations, 11 suspects were arrested in connection to the case,” Owoyesigyire said.
He named the suspects as Benon Mutebi, Sharif Ssenfuma, Daniel Zziwa, Ibra Kiwanuka, Denis Ntale, Steven Kiiza, Jamada Bakaki, Joram Kato, Ibrahim Kisozi Kienyi, William Mugisha and Caleb Kisambwe.
He however noted that four of these have since been taken to court and remanded to Luzira while the rest are soon being presented to court.
This website has separately learnt that when taken to the scene of the crime, the suspects confessed to the crime and narrated the crimes each played in the robbery and how they shared the money.
They said each of the boda boda riders was paid shs300,000 as the rest of the suspect shared the rest of the money.
“A search conducted at the residences of the suspects led to the recovery of several exhibits including three smartphones, feature phones, forged national ID, forged driving permit, Exim bank ATM card, two flat screen TVs and counterfeit US dollar notes,” Owoyesigyire said.
He said police are committed to ensuring safety and security of all Ugandans.
“The successful arrest of these suspects and the recovery of critical exhibits demonstrate our unwavering commitment to eliminate crime from our society. We assure the public that our officers are working tirelessly to investigate and bring to justice those involved in criminal activities.”
