Pragmatic realists in the arena of politics have since his inception in the active political scenery in the country described Kyadondo East legislator Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu as a new wine in an old bottle.
Eccentrically, the theories of who's is next after Museveni come with little or no realities desperately fused in a section of the population (mostly young people) that the question of time is about to be answered; a dream driven by calls for change or a new face in the highest office in the country.
In Uganda, the winds of change usually blow relentlessly as the country heads to the routine general elections.
As I inscribe this down, battle grounds have already been drawn in some constituencies.
In Mukono Municipality, current Mayor George Fred Kagimu has declared his intention to put to an end to the Betty Nambooze’s representation in Parliament.
Kagimu, a DP to, seems to be singing the lines of Kyadondo East Legislator Robert Kyagulanyi’s People Power while Nambooze subscribes to Dr. Kizza Besigye’s People Government.
Just like the two unquestionably prominent aggressive opposition muscles who are likely to go head-on, the script is more or less the same in Nakifuma County Constituency, where businessman Fred Ssimbwa Kaggwa, and media personnel Patriko Mujuuka have already stormed the ground.
I have been closely following the moves of Kyagulanyi of recent, I don’t remember any recent visit in Nakifuma.
But his name and that of People Power group are already popular in the area especially with the Ssimbwa Camp.
In other areas like Kassanda, Mityana, Luweero aspirants have fought to identify with Kyagulanyi even when he does not know them.
The Kyagulanyi revolution is not only giving sleepless night to those in power but also those is in the opposition.
Kyagulanyi over the weekend, left the country for Germany, nearly a week after returning from the land of Madiba (South of Africa).
On the same weekend, on Sunday 7th April, 2019, Uganda’s longest and most established traditional institution, Buganda, kicked off the celebrations to make the 64th birthday of the reigning King Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.
One of the main events to celebrate this achievement was the marathon which attracted over 70,000 people.
As early as 5:00 am, I was witness of the mass crowds flocking Buganda’s royal epitome; the historical Mengo Palace.
Standing straight in in a 45 degrees’ angle position, I could pan my camera back and forth to the jubilant Buganda subjects.
Among those clad in their red Jerseys was opposition Strongman Dr. Kizza Besigye whose presence at the event was highly acknowledged.
In his absentia, Kyagulanyi was ironically visible as the hordes of people constantly chanted his name.
With the facts on record that self-proclaimed ghetto gladiator was in Berlin attending a conference on democracy and freedom of expression, his physical absence shaped the case of the battle of the mind (the debate) as squally as his unseen but felt presence.
In his address to the crowd shortly after race, Katikkiro Charles Mayiga the used the word ‘Twebereremu’, a slogan identifies with Bobi Wine’s People Power Movement to the excitement of the chanting crowds.
